Change from Out-of-State Vehicle Registration to Hawai`i

Have the following:

Last issued out-of-state registration
Out-of-state title
Shipping receipt
Current safety inspection
Completed application form by registered owner (issued in Hawai`i)
Fees differ for each island and each vehicle ranging from $6.00-$180.00

Driver's License

Requirements for a driver's license in Hawai`i:

Must be 18 years or older with a current and valid out-of-state license.
Pass the Hawai`i Drivers License Written Test before current out-of-state license expires.
Current out-of-state driver's license must be surrendered upon passing of test.
Depending upon a record check of the out-of-state license, a road test may be waived.
Present social security card and any government issued ID, original birth certificate, or passport.
Fees may differ for each island and each individual. Fees range from $20.00-$33.00.

Public Transportation

Public bus systems run on three islands: Oahu, Hawai`i, and Kaua`i. Oahu also has ride sharing programs.

TheBus, Oahu's bus system, received the Public Transportation System Outstanding Achievement Award by the American Public Transportation Association for the years 1994-1995 and 2000-2001. The Bus has a Web site complete with schedule information available at- http://thebus.org
